Building a world-class transport system in the Auckland region has significant challenges.
ARTA has identified the following key issues for the Auckland land transport system, based on regional issues identified in the Regional Land Transport Strategy (RLTS) and nationally significant issues identified by Land Transport NZ:
Congestion and unreliable travel times affecting the region’s economic prosperity and development
Lack of travel choice resulting from incomplete passenger transport networks and the lack of travel plans and walking/cycling infrastructure, increasing reliance on private cars
