ARTA seeks to plan, develop and deliver transport services to support key national and regional policy documents. These include policy documents that guide Auckland’s future growth and development: The Regional Policy Statement, The Regional Growth Strategy, and The Regional Land Transport Strategy (RLTS).
The Auckland RLTS (ARLTS) sets the broad directions for transport in the Auckland region over the next 10 years.
Under its enabling legislation, ARTA is obliged to 'give effect to the ARLTS'. ARTA’s policies provide the framework for how transport outcomes sought by the ARLTS will be delivered. They are the:
Auckland Transport Plan - this document unites the region’s long-term transport programmes and ultimately ensures the best use of available funding for transport.
Regional Passenger Transport Plan - the statutory plan, which indicates the passenger transport services ARTA wishes to subsidise.
the plan for how ARTA will deliver the passenger transport outcomes sought by the ARLTS.Rail Development Plan - the plan that sets out the role of rail in delivering passenger transport outcomes.
Sustainable Transport Plan - the plan for helping Aucklanders to make more sustainable and safe travel choices.
Regional Arterial Road Plan - still being developed, this will establish consistent standards and levels of service for arterial roads throughout the region and identify the projects needed to achieve them.
Regional Road Safety Plan - the action plan for co-ordinating the activities of the regional road safety agencies.
Auckland Land Transport Programme - produced annually by ARTA in partnership with local councils. It sets out, in one document, all the transport projects (apart from state highways) scheduled for the coming year.Land Use and Transport Guidelines - The Integrated Transport Assessment (ITA) Guidelines provide guidance on the requirement for an Integrated Transport Assessment, which is a requirement of the Auckland Regional Policy Statement Plan Change 6, Method 2.6.12.7.
