TravelWise is a programme run by the Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA) in partnership with Auckland Regional Council, NZ Transport Agency, Ministry of Health, Roadsafe Auckland, Auckland City Council, Franklin District Council, Manukau City Council, North Shore City Council, Papakura District Council, Rodney District Council and Waitakere City Council.
TravelWise aims to reduce people’s dependency on cars and persuade them to choose sustainable travel alternatives such as travelling by public transport, cycling and walking. It is part of ARTA’s overall plan to create a world-class transport network that makes Auckland an even better place to live, work and play.
Auckland’s TravelWise team works with communities, schools, tertiary organisations and workplaces to develop travel plans that make it easier for people to get out of the car and into public transport, onto a bike, or off for a walk.
One of the biggest TravelWise initiatives so far is the Universities’ Travel Plan, involving around 40,000 tertiary students and staff.
TravelWise receives funding from the Auckland Regional Council, NZ Transport Agency and the Ministry of Health.
