Western Rail-Stabling Project

Following on from the completion of extensive double tracking work in 2008, Auckland's Western Rail Line is now running at levels of excellence in respect of on time services levels. Increased services as a result of the completion of the work mean that patronage levels are also at an all time high on this line. All good news. But there is more to come in respect of higher service levels and increased frequencies. More services require more trains. More trains require sites to house them. To maximize fleet efficiencies and to reduce costs associated with the dead running of trains, due to the centralized Stabling of Trains at Westfield Auckland, ARTA has developed a programme of Projects aimed at implementing several Distributed Stabling Facilities throughout the Auckland Rail Network.

The Distributed Stabling Project Programme commenced from 2006 onwards and has since developed Facilities at Papakura Station, Pukekohe Station (commissioned late 2008). Additional to this programme of Projects, is the development of a Western Line Distributed Stabling Facility at Railside Avenue in Henderson.

The Henderson Distributed Stabling Facility will provide for the stabling of the trains servicing the Western Rail Line, including the rail services to Hellensvile. The detailed design for the facility was completed late 2009 and work has started on the construction of the facility at the Railside avenue site in December 2009. ARTA aims to commission the Facility in May/June of this year.
