ARTA's vision is to provide Auckland with a world-class transport system that makes Auckland an even better place to live, work and play.
ARTA also has roles in improving road safety and administering the Total Mobility scheme, which helps fund transport for people with disabilities.
ARTA’s activities must aim to achieve the Auckland region’s transport goals, as set out in the Auckland Regional Land Transport Strategy (RLTS). This outlines what Auckland needs to have an effective and efficient transport system that can cope with the demands of many more people living and working in the region over the next 10 years.

To achieve Auckland's transport goals, ARTA undertakes daily ongoing activities that keep the existing transport system operating from day to day. These activities include the day-to-day planning and funding of public transport, and promoting alternative ways to get around.

ARTA aims to get public transport moving faster, more frequently, to allow Aucklanders the choice to use a bus, train or ferry to get around the region, rather than using their private cars. Find more information about MAXX Regional Transport, Trains, Buses and Ferries, here.
Roads provide the primary access for most Aucklanders - to work and education, for leisure and social reasons, and by car, bus, cycling and walking. Auckland businesses also depend on the roading network to move freight, goods and services around the region, between regions and overseas via the port and airport.
ARTA plays a central role in the coordination of road safety through RoadSafe Auckland and rail safety through the regional Rail Safety Group. ARTA also works with our partners to improve facilities, security and safety of passenger services and roads in the region.
